The Mario López Estrada Foundation, the Municipality of Guatemala and the World Vision Foundation, with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), signed a Cooperation Agreement on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 that gives life to the “Alliance for Education in Guatemala City” project, which will be implemented in the MUNITECs of zone 21 and zone 3, as well as in several Auxiliary Municipalities of Guatemala City. The project seeks to improve the quality of life of young people between 15 and 29 years of age, through alternative education, employment and/or entrepreneurship, thus addressing the main drivers of irregular migration in the country.
The project contemplates the teaching for one year of a diploma course called “Emprende con Éxito”, STEAM training which in Spanish means Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics, technical training and training in employment and entrepreneurship through “Acciona tu Empleo” and “Acciona tu Entrepreneurship”, which will be taught to a universe of 1,925 young people for a year, as of this date.
The Agreement was signed by the Mayor of Guatemala City, Ricardo Quiñónez; the Vice President of the Mario López Estrada Foundation, Engineer Mario López Pérez; by the Country Director of World Vision, Lorena Bin; and, counted the participation as Witness of Honor of the Director in Guatemala of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The Municipality of Guatemala will provide the MUNITEC facilities as well as promote the courses; the Mario López Estrada Foundation will provide the internet; and the World Vision Foundation will teach the courses with the financial support of AID.
Alliance for Education in Guatemala City is the continuation of the Alliance for Education project that was launched and executed the previous year in Nebaj, Quiché, and in Jacaltenango and Aguacatán in Huehuetenango.
